hmm...
MTV's SWAY and a panel of nimrods broke down the top ten current mc's in the game. The list goes:
10. Jim Jones
9. Common
8. 50 Cent
7. Jay-Z
6. Young Jeezy
5. Kanye West
4. Andre 3000
3. Game
2. T.I.
1. Lil Wayne
i personally agree with wayne at #1. in my opinion, wayne has been in the cut really analyzing and taking (whether u agree or not)the key elements behind many great mcs and is applying to himself. he's having fun with it.
i do not agree with everything else, T.I.'s album was wack. Game can't write a hook to save his life, listen to the 1st and 2nd album and the hooks fif wrote in comparision to the shit he did, you'll see. andre 3000 is placed correctly, he's so nice that he also has given up on rap but comes back everyonce in awhile to shit on niggas.
'Ye should be where he is at #5, but Young Jeezy at 6!?!??? if "go-getta" wasn't the worst rendition of "survivor" w/ akon, this niggas 2nd album *IN MY OPINION was garbage.
50 cent should never be behind Game, many people are brand new to things and do not realize yes, while Game is more lyrically ferocious, 50 has been around for a LONG time, spittin, being the underdog...check "regular joe" with JMJ *if you can get your hands on it. and tell me where his flow came from. 50 changed the mixtape game. period.
Jay-Z, the god mc, is the reason for a lot of these niggas in the top 10, whether rhymes scheme, flow, swag, marketing, just about everything. he needs to put a foot in Wayne's ass though because Weezy is killin shit, but whom better to learn from other than the greatest over the last 10 years? no comment on him at #7, all i'll say is, he's not as sharp or fierce anymore.
As for Common and Jim Jones, Common is aight, kinda bores me though nah mean? i think he shouldn't at #9, hes a legend and he keeps it hip-hop which i can respect more than alot of these clowns. he's dope but after resurrection, i ain't gon' front i don't really fuck with that nigga.
Jimmy Jones, love the guy, mad personality but duke don't deserve to be on the top ten.
i don't care about any of this commercial bullshit, ur rhymes all sound the same. i'm ready for new shit, substance but will still make me break my fuckin' neck. you gotta stand for something other than the fucking block.
I also couldn't tell you who i would replace the wack dudes with in the top ten. the current level and calibur of talent in music in general scares me. i don't think a lot of these styles are valid, not enough classics, too many here today, gone tomorrow. Put out classics for over a decade like Jay and overcharge "them" for what they did to the cold crush.
on that note, i'ma go listen to Cube's "Death Certificate".
;p
