Violent Weekend in Toronto Leaves 4 Dead in 24 Hours

Monday July 23, 2007

Only a few hours after police were called to the shooting that claimed the life of 11-year-old Ephraim Brown, they responded to another report of shots fired. When they got there they found the victim lying outside an apartment building. He was later pronounced dead in hospital. Officers are still probing the circumstances of that incident.

Also Monday, Toronto Police identified the victim of a fatal shooting in the Wellesley and Jarvis area. It's believed 31-year-old Shawn James was gunned down early Sunday morning outside a Bleecker Street apartment. Investigators want to talk with the driver of a Beck taxi with tinted windows that they believe the shooter was riding in.

The entertainment district was the scene of another deadly shooting just before 2am Sunday. 24-year-old Amin Aafi was killed and another man was shot in the leg inside the Flirt Lounge near Adelaide and Duncan. Police are going to review security camera tapes for clues. No arrests have been made. The post-mortem determined the cause of death was a single gunshot wound.

The carnage followed two separate shootings the previous night. One incident at Vaughan Rd. and Oakwood left one wounded and 21-year-old Kimel Foster dead.

But there was more. Another attack nearby at Bathurst and Wilson injured two people, but fortunately they are both expected to survive. Police arrested a suspect after a tip from a TTC driver.

Reacting to the recent violence, Toronto Mayor David Miller joined with Ontario Attorney General Michael Bryant in renewed calls for a ban on handguns.

"The thing about guns is that they show no mercy," he said. "I'm a father of an 11-year-old ... it's an absolute tragedy."

DO THEY NOT REALIZE THAT HANDGUNS ARE ALREADY ILLEGAL, TRYING TO BAN THEM WILL DO NOTHING! DUMMIES.
